WHAT: Nohmad Snack Co. makes gluten-free, dairy-free, PALEO treats using raw cacao. While they are known for their chocolate bars – I went straight to their vegan cookies. These raw cookies have been dehydrated at low temperatures for 24 hours rather than baked (baking at high temperatures can kill enzymes and decrease health benefits).
WHY: CACAO! All chocolate is made from the cacao (cocoa) bean, and cacao beans in their natural, unprocessed, unadulterated state are rich in nutrients and beneficial to health. Cacao is one of the most nutrient-dense superfoods because of it’s high levels of antioxidants* (4x the amount found in green tea), it’s rich in essential minerals, and essential fats (essential as in your body HAS to have them)… What all of that really means is that it’s good for heart health and circulation, raises good cholesterol, increases brain health (making us feel happy), reduces appetite, and promotes healthy skin. Sign me up!

THE VERDICT: The chewy texture of Nohmad cookies makes it feel like you’re eating cookie dough… minus the bellyache and guilt. Yes they do taste healthy but they have an incredible flavor that makes you forget why you ever ate their preservative and sugar saturated counterpart. I love both the carrot cake cookie (note that I would usually never even try a carrot cake flavor, so don’t miss out on this one!) and the chocolate chip cookie pretty much equally.
